For all IKT training programs once the dog returns home the members of the household will need to continue working with the dog to keep up with the training he/she has learned from his/her time with the trainer. At first this will involve commiting a few minutes each day to a formal session with your dog, as well as small changes through out the day, such as sitting at the door, and before each meal. Keeping your dog on a leash even in a fenced yard, so if your dog doesn't come when called, you have a way to show him when you call him he needs to come to you. If he is allowed to get away with stuff he will test you and see how much of what he can get away with. The IKT program works hard to give your dog structure and consistency. The trainer will also teach the owners/family members how to continue with this. After just a few weeks at home, you will start to see these things becoming a natural movement instead of something that has to be thought about. For example, when you walk to the door your dog will automatically sit, and when you get the food bowl your dog will sit and wait for you to bring it to him, instead of bouncing around (all without you saying a word!). This is a very rewarding program, and if given the chance I would love to help you see the rewards with your own dog!

Your dog comes and stays with the trainer in their home for the length of the program. At the end of the program, private training sessions will be given to you with your trained dog to show you how to keep up the training your dog already knows.

We offer 2 options for our In-kennel training (IKT) program: (MINIMUM AGE IS 4 MONTHS)

-2 to 5 week IKT program: During this IKT program we teach the basics, not to pull on a leash, not to jump, and basic in-home manners. We also teach your dog attention getting (look at me when I say your name), sit/stay, down/stay, come, and heel (walk beside you on a loose leash, and sit when you stop). We train through distractions, so your dog will stay down even when the cat runs by! The 2 weeks usually covers the basics of manners, plus sit/stay, down, come, and heeling all on leash. The longer your dog is with us the more advanced the training will be.

-6 week IKT program: During our 6 week IKT program we teach everything in the 2 to 5 week IKT program plus more! In this program we also teach the place command (go to your bed/place mat, and stay until told otherwise. GREAT for having company over, cooking, or just getting him out from under your feet!) We also teach climb (climb on anything he is physically able to and stay until told otherwise. Great for going on car rides, and not jumping out as soon as the door opens, getting on the vet table and staying there.

*** For clients that don't live in the area, I will travel to pick up and drop off your pet. Instead of doing several lessons with you after your pet comes home, I will stay and work with you for several hours until you feel confident you can keep up with the training. If for any reason you are having issues, I will come back to do another lesson, or your dog can come back to me for further training.
*There will be an extra fee to cover travel expenses.
